MENTORING PROGRAM EXPANDED!
It is with great excitement and anticipation that we announce the expansion of our SolidSource Mentoring Programs. Funding for this Mentoring project will be supplied through The RIDGE Project in Defiance, Ohio. SolidSource REC is a part of The RIDGE Project’s eleven county collaborative.
SolidSource’s two Mentoring Programs are 4real and One 4One. Both are designed to improve overall attitude, knowledge, and behavior of the students 16 years or older. Our mentors are trained in mentoring, not counseling. Therefore, any and all situations that the mentor is not certified to deal with will be referred in writing to the school guidance counselor or administration. In addition, with parental permission, the One4One Mentoring program gives the student freedom to discuss their faith.
Our plans are as follows:
| |
- Regular, weekly one-on-one mentor sessions with students referred to the program by school staff, administration or parents.
|
| |
- The mentor sessions will occur on a consistent basis during lunch, study hall, or other academic assist times as not to interfere with scheduled classes. However, our mentors can also meet after school with their mentee.
|
| |
- A report on the student’s progress can be submitted to the school guidance counselor the first week of each month. Parents may request information on the progress of the student at any time, and are welcome to contact the assigned Mentor at any time.
|
If you would like your students to participate in the mentorship program, please call our SolidSource Office at 419 238 0635.
OTHER SOLIDSOURCE NEWS...
SolidSource Stats for October 2006
In October, 2006 SolidSource provided services to Van Wert Middle School 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade, Wapakoneta 6 th and 7 th grade, the Marsh Foundation and Lincolnview 8 th grade. Between the schools we served 56 classes, reaching a total of 465 students and 151 adults. Our duplicated service numbers, the number of students and adults we have seen more than one time, were 1,388 students and 734 adults.
SolidSource Gets Results
SolidSource firmly believes in evaluating our programs to be sure they are effective, to assess our strengths and weaknesses and to provide results to our funders. Pre-and post-tests are given in each of the five lesson classes that we teach using a sophisticated system called CPS (the students actually love it because it is so high tech!). We ask a total of 24 questions. Below is a sampling of our September results.
134 out of 141 of the students agreed that they would be better able to reach their short-term and long-term goals if they wait until marriage to be sexually active.131 out of 141 the students agree that they have made a personal commitment to abstain from sexual activity until marriage. 130 out of 141 of all students agree the sexual activity should occur within the context of marriage. 138 out of 141 students agree that abstaining from sexual activity until marriage develops character traits such as self control that will help me become a responsible adult.
